Today is World Cancer Day, a day to raise awareness and take action ๐๐
Mouth cancer is the sixth most common cancer in the UK with over 10,825 new cases reported last year.
Did you know that the chance of survival is greatly improved if cancers are detected early and treated rapidly? Thatโs why prevention is key and your dentist or hygienist can help spot early signs of mouth cancer during routine checkups.
If you spotted anything unusual in your mouth or would simply like to book a check-up appointment, just ring Lisa Bonello, our Patient Care Co-Ordinator on โ๏ธ 01344 300 417 ๐ฑ07765 333 768 or ๐ง pc@crownwooddental.co.uk โ๏ธ 01344 300 417 or 07765 333 768 or ๐ง Email pc@crownwooddental.co.uk
Throughout the month of November, the Mouth Cancer Foundation and the Oral Health Foundation work hard to raise awareness of oral cancer with their ๐ Mouth Cancer Action Month?
It is important to be mouth aware by looking for red or white patches, long-lasting mouth ulcers or unusual lumps and swellings in the mouth, lips, head and neck. If you notice anything unusual, it is important that you flag this with your dentist.
Having regular dental check-ups and hygiene appointments also allows your dentist to detect any early signs of cancer so itโs important to book and attend these routine dental appointments.

According to a recent report conducted by the Oral Health Foundation. mouth cancer is continuing to rise throughout the UK. In the last 10 years, cases have risen by 34% and deaths have increased by 75% compared to 10 years ago.
Itโs important to be mouth ๐ aware and to be aware of early signs of oral cancer such as long-lasting mouth ulcers which do not seem to heal, red or white patches in the mouth, or unusual lumps or swellings in the mouth, head or neck. For more information about mouth cancer, visit https://www.dentalhealth.org/mouthcancer
The Oral Health Foundation report also highlighted that the cost-of-living crisis represents a major challenge as a lot of people wonโt be attending regular check-ups and early signs of oral cancer could
therefore be missed. Late diagnosis is one of the key reasons why mouth cancer survival rates have barely improved in the last 20 years.
If you notice anything out of the ordinary, make sure you visit your dentist. If mouth cancer is caught early, the chances to beat it are actually good.
If you want to book a dental appointment or simply want to talk to someone about any oral symptom you are concerned about, feel free to get in touch with Lisa Bonello, our Patient Care Co-Ordinator, on:

Over 8300 new cases of mouth cancer are diagnosed in the UK every year. Mouth cancer affects 650 000 people worldwide per year and over 2700 lives are lost every year. Incidence has risen by 49% over the past 10 years whilst 5-year survival rates have hardly improved in the last few decades due to late detection.
This is why not just in November but every single day, it is important to be mouth aware by looking for red or white patches, long-lasting mouth ulcers or unusual lumps and swellings in the mouth, lips, head and neck.
