Did you know that November is ? Mouth Cancer Action Month?

Throughout the month of November, the Mouth Cancer Foundation and the Oral Health Foundation work hard to raise awareness of oral cancer and you can find out more about how to get involved here: https://www.mouthcancerfoundation.org/mouth-cancer-action-month/

Over 8300 new cases of mouth cancer are diagnosed in the UK every year. Mouth cancer affects 650 000 people worldwide per year and over 2700 lives are lost every year. Incidence has risen by 49% over the past 10 years whilst 5-year survival rates have hardly improved in the last few decades due to late detection. 

This is why not just in November but every single day, it is important to be mouth aware by looking for red or white patches, long-lasting mouth ulcers or unusual lumps and swellings in the mouth, lips, head and neck. If you notice anything unusual, it is important that you flag this with your dentist.

Having regular dental check-ups and hygiene appointments also allows your dentist to detect any early signs of cancer so it’s important to book and attend these routine dental appointments.

Dental implants are posts that support replacement teeth which are made of highly durable titanium. They fit directly into your jawbone and hold false teeth securely in place in the same way that roots support natural teeth. With good oral hygiene, then they should last for the rest of your life.

So what is the typical implant treatment journey?

? During your initial assessment we would typically take a 3D CBCT scan of the missing teeth area in order to determine the amount of bone you have, the position of the nerves and bone structure. This is to ensure the implants placed are in the optimised position for safety, durability and longevity.

? If we find that bone density and quality has been reduced, bone grafting (replacement of lost bone) may be required. This procedure can be performed at the same time as the dental implant placement.

? Dental implants once placed successfully will need time to ‘settle’ into the bone. This usually takes up to 3 months or sometimes longer.

? After approximately 3 months the implant will be ready for impressions and the construction of your new permanent implant crown, bridge or denture.

? Often with dental implants, a temporary crown, bridge or denture can be fitted on the SAME DAY as your implant is placed. This process is known as Immediate Loading or Immediate Implant Placement.

You can choose to either try our home teeth whitening kit or the Zoom Chairside Whitening procedure. But what’s the difference between the two ??  

?The Home Teeth Whitening Kit consists in creating a custom-made mouth tray. A whitening gel is then placed in the tray which is worn while you sleep ? or for short periods during the day. Results are normally seen over a 2 week period.

?Same Day Philips Zoom Chairside (laser) Whitening will only take about 2 hours and the results will be truly astonishing as it can whiten up to six shades. The chairside treatment works best in conjunction with Zoom DayWhite or NiteWhite for patients to continue whitening at home.
